First Post: What is the Cosmic Sensorium?
The Cosmic Sensorium is how I think of expanding our sensory perception to facilitate our consciousness of a wider range of events, beings, and realities. Here you will find some of my explorations into inner and outer space, and the way they link to everything else. Hence my interest in rescuing objects, faces, scenery, and instances in my day-to-day life that may go unnoticed (via photography), and my will to (re?)create different visions and insights (via visionary art, mandalas and "grounding" the sacred geometry patterns in them). My medium is hope, patience, perseverance, the exercising of intuition, vision, meditation, dream work, and learning to give myself whole-heartedly to everything I do.
Technically, the term Cosmos refers to all of manifest existence, including various realms of consciousness. The commonality across different cosmologies is their attempt to understand and describe the implicit nature within the whole of being. Some perspectives speak of macro- and micro-cosmos, or schemas for apprehending - recognizing - seeing - working with - and/or understanding similar patterns that manifest at sub-atomic and universe-level scales (as well as in other scales both within and beyond these two). The golden ratio, golden mean, or golden number usually plays an important part in the explanations of how "one becomes many" at these different scales.
Sensorium speaks to the complex combination of an organism's perceptions; the "seat of sensation", where we experience and interpret the environments within which we live. Vaguely put, perception is the process of attaining an awareness and understanding of sensory information. There is, of course, a social component in the way we perceive. The same is true about the content of our perceptions. Early in our lives we are trained -conditioned- to hone in on certain percepts and completely ignore others. Also, we are trained to perceive certain things in very specific ways. Sometimes this training is so strong that we may not believe what we see, hear, feel (etc) even though it is right there 'in front of us.' Take social structures, for example. Just as one object or situation can give rise to multiple percepts (including illusions), so an object or situation may fail to give rise to any percept at all. If the percept does not have at least some remote grounding in a person's conscious experience or imagination, the person may literally not know how or if she or he actually perceives it.
Our society as a whole holds consensus over what are considered as valid schemes of perception and conceptualization, and most of us validate these schemes as truth with our (more than often passive) acceptance of what's made to seem normal. The Latin root of the word perception implies apprehension with the mind and/or the senses.

My art is the gaps between my fingers. It is not mine, yet it is close to me. I might fall under the impression of knowing where it starts/ends, or how it moves... to then realize it is a whole world beyond. It is my notion of me that has a shape, a shape which might be traced against these gaps. It is in art, and through art, that I go beyond these notions. And it is here that I will be sharing these with you.
Welcome and enjoy.
